OUGD404 - Christmas Tasks
Graphic Notation -
The song ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ suitably links to all 3 poets because firstly its by Leonard Cohen, Secondly it utilises patterns and chords also used in Latin guitar, which links to Pablo Neruda. Finally the lyrics and general tone of the song link well to the poetry of E.E. Cummings; for example images of New York in the rain are also imbued by Cummings’ poetry.
Both images utilise a dark and toned down colour palette to represent the mood of the song, dark blue is especially successful in this as the song is called Famous Blue Raincoat. Each image has various patterns which go from the left side to the right. Some patterns correspond the melody or rhythm of parts of the music, while others just rationalise the overall timbre. The guitar part of the song feels like its going up and down or round and round and this is represented in swirling or winding patterns.
