OUGD404 - Grid Systems - Critique
With the clarity of the task
this week embellished, having gone through a research publication the week
before, I found creating my research publication on grids a bit easier, and
ultimately I think this was reflected in the quality of the publication I produced.
Although the content of a
publication on grids is vastly different to that of a publication on colour
theory, elements of the task last week helped me this week. I thought about
practical considerations like paper stock, and tried to use an efficient and
concise layout and order for my pages, to facilitate an easier reading
experience. These considerations were mentioned in feedback from my peers, who
said my choice and application of paper stock, such as cartridge paper,
coloured card and graph paper, was effective and that it produced a more
consistent aesthetic for my publication. Another good piece of feedback I got
from a few people was that my descriptions of the grid systems were 'very
indepth'.
Following some of the critical
feedback I received, I shall endeavour to do a few things before the
publication must be completed:
1. Create a range of both
experimental and refined layouts, demonstrating my chosen grid systems - while
I have collaged some layouts for the different grid systems in my publication,
the feedback I received indicated I could do more experimentation with them and
also produce some more refined, digital layouts to demonstrate my full
understanding of the systems, as well as my capability of depicting them.
2. Practical layout
considerations - While the layout of the research publication itself does not
need to be as developed as the experimental grid system layouts, I received
comments saying a few things could be changed such as changing a3 pages to a4
so that they're easier to see when binded.
