Pablo Neruda - Research

·        Born 12 July 1904 - Died 23 September 1973

·        Pablo Neruda was a Chilean poet and diplomat, he served in the Chilean Communist Party as a senator.

·        Neruda won the Nobel prize in 1971.

·        The main subject of a lot of his poetry was love, as well as celebrating his Chilean heritage.

·        Neruda wrote in green ink, as a symbol of hope but also despair.

·        The romantic and erotic nature of a lot of his early poetry was very controversial. He started writing when he was 10, however his first book - 20 Love Poems and a Song of Despair - was published when he was 20.

·         As a known communist, a warrant was released for Neruda's arrest in 1948 when President González Videla banned communism. Neruda fled to Argentina and hid in his friends basement for months.

·        Five days after being hospitalized with cancer, Neruda suspected his doctor had given him an unknown injection. Six and a half hours after the injection, Neruda died, leading to controversy over the nature of his death.
