Cover:
These 3 different cover tests use black card, black buckram and black raincoat material. The raincoat material is the most experimental and the most rooted in the concept of the book, its also the most interesting on a tactile level. However it is the hardest to use practically and is a more expensive material to source. Testing embossing on this proved successful so it could be used for the cover. Moving forwards, perhaps a full cover could be made to really test it out. The buckram cover is a lot more refined and gives quite a clean professional finish, however is less related to the concept of the project.
Fluorescent Materials:
A fluorescent bouncers armband was bought so it could be used as a belly band on the book, taking the idea of giving the book physical qualities of a bouncer. Seeing as the strap won't fit around the book, fluorescent tape was bought which can be stuck around the book with the armband on it, which would mean it is secured on the book, however it would not be removable so this would have to be experimented with. An interesting idea would be to put something in the ID slot of the armband, perhaps a mock ID, or just the title of the book. Also fluorescent paper stock was experimented with, this ties in the fluorescent yellow as a spot colour within the book as well as on the exterior, giving the publication more aesthetic continuity, and its boldness communicates the idea off boldness used throughout the book, representing a bouncer.
Moving forward now with the production, there are a few things to consider, mainly, how can more production methods be employed to physically portray a bouncer? Could the book be heavier, using wood or metal for the cover? Could it be hard to get into i.e. locked or even bound on both sides? - representing the bouncer as an immovable tough object. Also, the idea to put something along the lines of ‘ID Please” on the cover would be interesting, with the actual title, Bad Bouncers, on the cover page. This would replicate the experience of meeting a bouncer, with the inside of the book representing the inside of the club.
