Book Content - Photography

For the photographic images of a bouncer, these shots were taken at night outside a large front door. The model wears a large black coat and a fluorescent bouncer armband. The symbolism and impact of the armband is interesting; the moment he put it on, he was almost instantly transformed into a bouncer, this shows how synonymous the armband is with bouncers and further justifies the use of the armband on the publication’s box.

The intention for the shots was to make them look fairly menacing; with the light coming from above, this effect was achieved, creating shadows on the face, almost masking it. Making the shots black and white further complemented this idea and also was intended to match the monochrome colour palette of the rest of the content. The model was directed to assume standard bouncer poses such as standing with his arms crossed and with his hands in his pockets in front of the door. Some shots are a lot more dynamic, showing the motion of the bouncer reaching his hand up, or even midway through swinging a punch. This was inspired by one of the sourced bouncer stories about someone taking a photo a bouncer and not realising the flash was on and ending up with a photo of the bouncer mid swing.
