Studio Brief 2 - Week 1 Crit
Overall my feedback from this crit was mostly positive and has given
me some good constructive criticism to I can use to refine my 5 designs.
Idea 1
Good design and choice of font,
reasoning behind use of vertical lines in connection with Begum's admiration of
the Dutch De Stijl art movement is appropriate. To push this design further I'm
going to make an animation where hopefully It'll appear like an optical
illusion, I may also add colour. Thinking about the application of this design,
a gif would work well on a screen based media such as a website.
The design itself looks refined
and ties in with Begum's use of minimalism, space and geometric shapes, however
using negative space is something which has been done a lot. In order to
continue with this design, I'm going to find shapes in Begum's work similar to
those in this logotype and replace them. I may also experiment with adding
colour and texture.
Compositionally an attractive
design, however not so much a logotype as it is experimentation. I could
continue to experiment with warping the type however in one resolved logotype.
Idea 4
Using drop shadows is nothing
new, however playing with the lines of the shadow left behind was an
interesting concept which produced an unconventional result. Despite this, it's
not very representative of Rana Begum and her work so I may need to put that
idea to bed.
Idea 5
A fairly simple design in which
I contemplated perspective and warping the text in an optical way. A good idea
from the crit was to combine this logotype with the pattern from idea 1 which
is definitely something I'll pursue.
Ultimately for all my ideas I'm
going to endeavour to work larger and non digitally; employ some of the
practical approaches I've used in the past 2 projects and then refine these
ideas on Photoshop.
