Idea 1
Grow – Map out grid and place light source in top corner, make a
starting point and then try and form an alphabet from the different paths. Based on grow being a synonym of evolutionary and the idea of phototropism - when plants grow towards their light source.
Idea 2
Evolve – modern and old typefaces, half and half, make the Helvetica
more condensed for bigger contrast. This is a simple idea and is very much a visual representation of the word evolve with no real concept behind, however it would be worth visually exploring.
Idea 3
Find bare minimum parts required to form every letter, make stencil,
arrange etc. This is based on trying to foresee the evolution of typography and communication, and how it could become more simple and efficient.
Idea 4
Conway’s game of life – pixelate letterforms then apply rules to
abstract and grow. I think the benefit of this idea is that not only does it really embody the idea of growing, it has a set system to follow which will work with any letterform.
Idea 5
Inspired by Shepard tones and cymatics, overlap a few grids and create
letterforms from them, use two different weights to represent to octave used in
Shepard tones.
