OUGD406 - End of Module Self Evaluation
Overall my performance in this module has been the best of any module this year in my opinion. Studio Brief 1 had a very interesting subject which helped in getting creative and passionate about it, with everyone picking such vastly different micro genres, it was incredibly interesting to see the breadth of work being produced. My skills in screen-printing vastly improved this module as I had not really explored it before, this allowed me to produce my work to a higher quality and standard. Studio Brief 2 put to practise the group skills previously exercised in other modules and I think I benefited my group a lot, coming up with some good ideas and taking charge when necessary to organise and for example get everyone to do a critique and summary of how their component of the brief was developing. I am happy that our group won the brief and hopefully that reflects how well we worked as a team and interpreted the project effectively. I think the content of this module was very relevant to perfecting the skills we learnt this year.
Some of the most successful parts of this module for me, in my opinion, were; developing my research skills even further, in order to create contextually relevant and original work and my considerations to production quality and refining the end result to a higher standard than I have done before. In general I think there has also been a notable improvement to my skills established in other modules such as utilising grid systems with effect and selecting and applying relevant and engaging typography to compositions.
When highlighting areas for improvement, first of there were certain elements of Studio Brief 1 I would have liked to have developed and produced further including the production of the flag which would have been more effective screen printed, and the development of a more engaging idea for packaging. I think if I were to repeat this module, I would try and be more ambitious with my J-Card, maybe printing more than 2 colours. I also feel like my work on the catalogue for studio brief 2 could have been more refined and could have reflected the ideas of the exhibition with more precision and effect. One of the pieces of advice I am definitely going to take forward is to ‘do one simple idea but do it really well’ as I often get caught up in trying to come up with a complex idea when its not necessary.
