Peer Led Critique

This group critique generated a lot of good ideas, in response to the question - “What production methods can be used to give the book more physical qualities of a bouncer?”. Feedback indicated that the raincoat material cover was a good idea and should be used, it was also commented that the cover should be thicker and heavier, possibly using wood or metal, and the embossed type on the cover should be more imposing. Then the idea was brainstormed about how the book can be hard to get in to, one person commenting about how you might have to use your id to get in to it.

The really groundbreaking idea was to put the book in a box - the box could be made off wood, covered in the anorak material and with the armband on it. It could have a spring hinge on one side making the box hard to open, perhaps you would have to slip something thin in to open it such as an ID card. It would be embossed with something like “You Got ID Mate?” instead of “ID Please” After someone rightfully pointed out that a bouncer wouldn’t say please. The book would then be on the inside, bound in buckram for a more quality finish and the title ‘Bad Bouncers’ would be embossed on the cover.

This crit really gave me some good ideas and now I’ve sorted out in my head what I need to do a bit more. I need to figure out how to make the box and how it can be hinged, and I also need to experiment with screen printing on the inside and figure out the printing method for all the pages, as well as the paper stock and how well it can be screen printed onto. It’ll be best to complete the book first, so that I have its dimensions and then I can make the box which means a main priority is getting all my content.
