Fortune Favours the Bold - more ideas

Continuing with coming up with ideas for fortune favours the bold as the line of copy, this first idea, again utilising a bright gradient background to maximise boldness, uses a big bold sans serif typeface (DIN) against a lighter stylised serifed font (Benguiat). The main idea for this really was to have that contrast so that the lighter type saying ‘leeds arts uni’ really pops out. The design is fairly competent but could be more bespoke and more rooted in research.

These designs play off of the latin/roman roots of the phrase by having a roman sculpture as a primary image in the composition. The slightly more developed poster plays with 3D imagery and shadow, creating a more dynamic and eye catching piece, having said that, there is a beauty in the simplicity of the first piece. These designs are quite refined and certainly very eye catching, however firstly the type isn’t big enough, meaning that people walking by the poster on the street won’t instantly read it. Also while there is research behind the use of the statue image, perhaps it’s mot relevant enough to the university. Maybe a more typographically directed composition would be the way to resolve these issues.
